The term Business Activity Monitoring ( BAM ) describes the collection of analyzes and presentations on time-relevant business processes in organizations.

Business activity monitoring should not be confused with business process management (BPM).

It provides detailed information on the status and results of various operations, processes and transactions so that business decisions can be prepared and problems can be addressed quickly.

Typical software in this area is able, for example, to provide immediate information about the status of business processes at the system level (business process overloaded, long response times from the end-user perspective, violation of service level agreements ) and to report these to the responsible authorities and thus serves as a monitoring tool for business processes at system level.
