Stone chest on Buttern Hill

The site churning Hill in Camelford in St Clether in the north of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall in England consists of some less interesting round hut foundations and Cairn . The row of stones and a stone box are better preserved. The name butter is derived from the medieval word Buter and means "good pasture".

The row of stones

On the west flank of the hill runs from northeast to southeast the approximately 80 m long stone row , near the source of the River Fowey. The 23 stones are on average less than half a meter high and are about 3.5 m apart.

The stone box

Near the summit is a complete, half-sunk stone box surrounded by larger stones that do not reveal any order. The long side stones are supported by the short side stones placed in between. The capstone lies at an angle. The remains of a hill can be seen.
