Buurhakaba (also written Bur Hakkaba , Buur-Hakba or Bur Acaba ) is a city in the Bay region in southern Somalia . It has a population of around 28,000 and is located southeast of Baidoa , the seat of the Somali transitional government . Buurhakaba is on a road from Baidoa to Afgooye .
The site was fiercely contested in 2006 between the transitional government and the Union of Islamic Courts , from which it was temporarily occupied. Meanwhile, it is under the control of the transitional government and neighboring Ethiopia.
