Stephan Rürup

Stephan Rürup (* 1965 in Bad Oeynhausen ) is a German cartoonist , comic artist and musician.

Life

Rürup graduated from the Evangelisch Stiftisches Gymnasium Gütersloh in 1985 and then did his community service in Gütersloh's Hermann-Geibel-Haus, a care facility for the elderly. He studied visual communication at the Münster University of Applied Sciences . Since 1989 he has published cartoons and comics, including in Kowalski , Titanic , Eulenspiegel and ZITTY .

From 1993 to 1995 three children's books were published, from 1997 to 2000 he was a lecturer for drawing and illustration at the Münster University of Applied Sciences. From 2000 to 2014 Rürup worked as an editor for the satirical magazine Titanic. He draws u. a. for Welt am Sonntag and the IG Metall membership magazine .

He won the renowned German Cartoon Prize in 2018 at the Frankfurt Book Fair for a cartoon about child poverty. The jury decision was unanimous.

Stephan Rürup lives in Münster .

From 1992 until its dissolution in 1998/1999, Rürup was the singer of the jazzcore / noise band Porf : During this time four albums were released, the last two on the Troisdorf label bluNoise . In 2005 he founded the band Zimt with the Porf drummer Ronald Hofhüser , renamed ZMT after Carsten Finkenberg left .
