Cúscraid Menn Macha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cúscraid Menn Macha [ 'kuːskriðʼ mʼeN' maxa ] ("Cúscraid, the founder of Macha") is the name of a legendary figure from the Ulster cycle of Celtic mythology in Ireland .

Cúscraid is in the story Scéla mucce Meic Dathó ("The Story of Mac Dathós Pig") the son of King Conchobar mac Nessa and the foster son of the hero Conall Cernach . He got his nickname Menn Macha because Cet mac Mágach , in order to humiliate Cúscraid, said that he had pierced his throat and injured his vocal cords in a duel. The reason for this insult is the dispute over the hero bite ( curad-mír ) among the warriors present at the feast at Mac Dathó. Ultimately, however, Cúscraid's foster father Conall Cernach wins, who trumps everyone.
