Cœur Défense is the name of a skyscraper in the Paris suburb of Courbevoie in the office district of La Défense . Construction began in 1999. When it was completed in September 2001, the 161 m high office tower was the seventh tallest in the La Défense business district. The skyscraper has 39 floors above ground and an area of approximately 350,000 square meters. This makes it the largest building in Europe and the third largest building in the world. The building was designed by the architect Jean-Paul Viguier .
The office tower is the Metro station La Defense and the La Defense station to the public transport in the Paris bound.
