from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The “Wiener Rose” stamp was issued in 2014 by Austrian Post with a face value of 5.90 euros. It is considered to be the world's first porcelain postage stamp .

motive

The motif shown is the so-called Viennese rose , which was designed by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in 1740. The simple rose was later adapted to Art Nouveau with stylized rose petals and fine shades .

At the same time as the first edition on March 20, 2014, an official first day cover was published including a first day cancellation , showing a stylized rose and the words AUGARTEN PORZELLAN 20.3.2014 1020 Vienna .

The circulation is 150,000 pieces.

Manufacturing

The stamp was created in collaboration with the Augarten porcelain manufacturer in Vienna and was produced using a complex process specially developed for the stamp. First, a white stamp sheet was burned for 24 hours at 960 ° C, then glazed and hardened at even higher temperatures. The application of the brand motif, the country name and the nominal value only took place afterwards using the screen printing process . In order to guarantee color fastness , these were baked in a further operation at 820 ° C.
