La Défense is an underground station on the Paris Métro . It is located below the office district of the same name in the Paris suburb of Puteaux . The station is served by Métrolinie 1 and is its western terminus . With around 35,000 passengers a day, in 2004 it was one of the 20 busiest stations on the metro. There is possibility to change the likewise underground station La Defense to the RER line A . In addition, line 2 of the Paris tram and the Transilien regional trains run at the above-ground stops .
The station went into operation on April 1, 1992 when the western extension of Line 1 was opened. At that time, this was extended from the Pont de Neuilly station to La Défense. In October 2009, the installed RATP at the station for passenger safety platform doors .
