CA Jahreis was a mechanical embroidery factory in Hohenems , Vorarlberg .

history

This factory was founded on July 1, 1884 under the company Jahreis & Maurer in Hohenems, when August Jahreis and Caspar Maurer joined the company. In the beginning, the company mainly operated contract embroidery on mechanical satin stitch machines , which products were exported to Switzerland , but began to work for the domestic market at an early stage and founded a branch in St. Louis in North America in 1887 . At the state exhibition in Bregenz in the same year, the company's products were awarded the large silver state medal. On July 1, 1894, Caspar Maurer left the company, which was now run as CA Jahreis, with August Jahreis as the sole owner.

Since then the company had turned mainly to specialty embroidery, liquidated the American business and worked exclusively for the European continent, mainly for the domestic market. The business experienced a brisk boom at the end of the 19th century, despite the misery of the embroidery industry at the time, due to the company's quality items, which were not at all or only slightly affected by the fluctuations in the market situation. The company had successfully endeavored to train an efficient workforce over many years, and around 1900 was able to pay its workers up to 30% higher wages than were generally given on special items.

The company was appointed supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court .
