CF Glass & Co.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CF Glass & Co. was a piano factory in Heilbronn .

history

Carl Ferdinand Glass (or Glaß) (* 1852 in Mannheim ) was a trained businessman. With a partner he founded a piano factory in 1879. From 1884 it traded under the name CF Class & Cie. and CF Claß & Co., after Glass had teamed up with the piano manufacturer Chr. Münzing. In 1893 the company described itself as a German-American piano factory; Advertisements advertised that they were operating “exclusively on electricity”.

The factory was located in the so-called Wilhelmsbau , the corner house Wilhelmstrasse 9 / Cäcilienstraße 45, until 1904 . This building was shown on the letterhead at the top left. Another address where the piano factory was temporarily located was Cäcilienstraße 33.

From 1903 Christian and Friedrich Münzing had a new building for the piano factory built at Wilhelmstrasse 47. The plans came from Christian Dietz . A front and a rear building including a boiler house were planned. During the First World War , this house served as mass quarters. At this point in time, it was apparently already owned by the landlord Adolf Schögle. The house at Wilhelmstrasse 47 and 47a was also shown graphically on the letterhead of the piano factory. In addition, Urbanstrasse was given there as another address after the move.

In 1927 the company was converted into a limited partnership. In 1928 Frieda Münzing withdrew her shares in the company so that it had to stop making payments. CF Glass & Co. was then taken over by GL Nagel , and Edeka HN moved into the Wilhelmstrasse 47 building.

A glass piano is in the collection at Villa Koecher in Halberstadt .

  1. The spelling with ß and Co. can be found around 1902 in the patent gazette , which was published by the Imperial Patent Office, Volume 26, Part 2, p. 880. The company had a soundboard patented at that time.
