The C4 Bay 11 were four-axle compartment cars for express and passenger trains of the Royal Bavarian State Railways . As the successor to the C4 Bay 04 , they were based on the same dimensions as this one and were listed in the K.Bay.Sts.B. from 1913 with sheet no. 146 led.

history

After a first series of 25 cars of the type CC from 1904, another series of 35 cars of the same type was commissioned from the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg (MAN) in 1911 . To improve running smoothness at higher speeds, the wagons were given bogies with a 3,500 mm wheelbase. In addition, the double compartments E and F in the middle of the car could be converted into a sick bay. The cars equipped in this way were given the generic designation C4kr Bay 11 . One car was delivered to the K.Bay.Sts.B. network on the left bank of the Rhine. delivered to the former Pfalzbahn .

A total of three cars had to be handed in as reparations after the First World War. Four cars were taken out of service before 1939, and a total of thirteen more could no longer be detected after the end of the Second World War. By 1957 the successor company DB retired the last car.

Constructive features

Underframe

Frame: riveted rolled sections. The outer side members had a U-shaped cross-section. To support the car body due to the large pivot spacing, a truss frame made of profiles and pillars was installed in the plane of the outer longitudinal beams. As is customary with compartment cars, continuous running boards were attached to the sides.

Drawbar: screw couplings , the drawbar was continuous and sprung in the middle.

Bumpers: The original rod buffers were later replaced by sleeve buffers .

drive

Bogies of standard Bavarian design with a long wheelbase were used as the running gear. These had a frame made of metal sheets and angles riveted together. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies with a diameter of 1,014 mm. Air brakes from the Westinghouse system were used as brakes . There was also a hand spindle brake at one end of the car.

Car body

Shell: car body frame made of wood, clad on the outside with sheet metal and inside with wood. Side walls slightly drawn in on the underside, barrel roof. No transition on the front sides. For the type C4kr Bay 11 wagons , the middle double compartment (numbers "E" and "F") was converted into a compartment for the horizontal transport of sick people and accompanying persons.

Interior: a total of ten 3rd class compartments ( only 8 in the C4kr Bay 11 ). A total of four toilets with washing facilities. One of the toilets could be reached from each compartment through side passages. The car had wooden benches.

Heating: The vehicles had steam heating .

Ventilation: static fans on the roof above the toilets.

Lighting: originally the lighting was done by gas light bulbs, the storage container hung in the longitudinal direction of the car on the frame. Later partially electric lighting.
