Seven lay people formed the core of the team . In the following years the field of activity developed and the organization assumed its basic structure. It was not until the statutes, which were revised in 1992, that the name “Catholic International Center of Geneva” was chosen and the new form of organization established. In the same year they were recognized by the then Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international Catholic organization under papal law and were included in the official register . The choice of location for Geneva was based on the seat of the UN Human Rights Council , with which the CCIG has concluded a cooperation agreement.
