T-cell surface glycoprotein CD1a is a surface protein .

properties

It is among others in cortical thymocytes , Langerhans cells , dendritic cells , in some T cell leukemias formed. CD1a is in the course of the adaptive immune response involved in the antigen presentation of lipid -, lipopeptide - and glycolipid - antigens compared to the T cell receptor of the NKT cells . In addition to lipids, it also binds to beta-2 microglobulin . CD1a is glycosylated and has disulfide bridges .

It can be used as an immunohistochemical examination in histiocytosis X in order to be able to detect thymocytes, Langerhans cells and dendritic cells.
