The CDAX (abbreviation for Composite DAX ) was introduced at Deutsche Börse AG on September 17, 1993 as an additional index to the well-known German stock index (DAX). While the DAX comprises a small but significant number of stocks with only 30  standard stocks, the CDAX includes all German stocks listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in the General Standard and Prime Standard . Foreign stocks, for example from Qiagen or Airbus, are not included in the CDAX. It is calculated by Deutsche Börse as a performance index and as a price index . December 30, 1987 was chosen as the starting point for the calculation and a value of 100 points was set. There are historical share prices, so that the price index can be looked back up to 1970.

Listed stocks

In 1973 there were 156 stock corporations listed in a regulated market (then: official trade and regulated market ) in Germany. This number rose to 485 by 2014. Not all of them are included in the CDAX because some are only listed on regional stock exchanges.
