The Z 200 series were a series of eight two-part diesel railcars of the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL). The railcar trains built by Westwaggon in 1956 were in service in Luxembourg until 1994, two vehicles have been preserved. In addition to the 800 series , the railcars were the only vehicles specially designed for the Luxembourg State Railways.
history
The order for eight railcars with around 375 hp and around 170 seats was put out to tender in 1954. The vehicles also had to be usable together with the Z 100 series . Westwaggon received the order in 1955, and the vehicles were delivered as early as 1956/57. In total, the railcars cost 42 million francs.
The vehicles were initially used primarily on the main lines, only after the Z 100 series was retired, the railcars were also used on the branch lines.
With the electrification of the Luxembourg – Troisvierges railway and its Ettelbrück – Diekirch and Kautenbach – Wiltz branches at the end of the 1980s / beginning of the 1990s, the vehicles were gradually replaced by the 2000 series . A railcar - the Z 201/211 - was last used as planned in autumn 1994. Two vehicles were retired in 1989, the remaining six in 1994. Two vehicles were scrapped in 1992, three more in 1996. The Z 201/211 and Z 218/218 remained The latter is kept operational as a museum vehicle by the Luxembourg Monument Preservation Office and maintained by the 1604 CLASSICS association. The Z 206/216, which was initially also preserved, burned out in 2007 and was then also scrapped.
numbering
Originally the vehicles were supposed to be designated as Z 401–408, but after the delivery of the first double multiple unit the numbering was changed to Z 201 A / B – 208 A / B. In the 1980s, the subdivision A / B was omitted, instead the vehicles were led as Z 201 / 211-208 / 218.
