The 800 series were a series of six diesel locomotives operated by the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL).

Three of the diesel-electric locomotives built by AFB in 1954 were scrapped in the 2000s, two are inoperable, while one vehicle was still in use in 2011. In addition to the class Z 200 railcars , the heavy shunting locomotives were the only vehicles specially designed for the Luxembourg State Railways.

history

At the beginning of the 1950s, the CFL intended to replace steam locomotives in labor-intensive shunting operations with diesel locomotives. In addition to a series with 400 hp (the later 450 series ), six locomotives with 750 hp were to be procured. In addition to the heavy shunting service, the requirement specification also included pushing the truck . In 1953 the six vehicles were ordered from AFB, the total price was to be 40 million francs. The model for the design for the CFL was the SW8 from General Motors .

The vehicles were delivered in 1954 and have since been used exclusively for freight transport.

Two vehicles were taken out of service in 2004 and another in 2005. Of the three remaining locomotives, two were retired in 2010, while the CFL 802 was still used on temporary jobs in 2011. Three of the decommissioned shunting locomotives have now been scrapped, the CFL 804 is to be retained as a museum vehicle, the CFL 806 was sold to Belgium in 2010.
