The Flensburg Chamber of Crafts is one of a total of 53 chambers of crafts in Germany. As a self-governing institution, it represents the interests of the entire trade in northern and western Schleswig-Holstein . The chamber district includes the districts of Schleswig-Flensburg , North Friesland , Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Dithmarschen as well as the independent city of Flensburg . The Flensburg Chamber of Crafts represents around 10,800 craft businesses with around 60,000 employees, including around 5,000 apprentices (as of July 2016). Not far away from the Chamber of Crafts is also the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Flensburg , with which it should not be confused.

history

The Flensburg Chamber of Crafts was founded on April 4, 1900 on the basis of the Craftsmen Act from 1897. The eventful history at the beginning of the 20th century also had an impact on the chamber district. In a referendum in 1920, the majority of the population in the northern part of Schleswig decided to belong to the Danish Kingdom, which almost halved the area of the chamber district. During the Nazi regime (1933 to 1945), the self-administration of the crafts suffered from the Gleichschaltungsgesetz, as a result of which, among other things, the plenary assembly as the highest decision-making body of the chamber was dissolved and the president was not elected, but appointed by the Reich Economics Minister. The first general assembly after the Second World War took place on November 28, 1945. The first seat of the Chamber of Crafts after the constitution was initially in Grosse Strasse 6. Later there were further rooms in Flensburg, Schiffbrückstrasse and Nikolaistrasse. On December 2, 1964, the general assembly decided to acquire the property and to build the first section at the current location at Johanniskirchhof 1-7 (see Dammhof area ). In the course of the past decades, numerous expansion and renovation measures have been carried out at this location - especially in the area of the workshops for the inter-company training of apprentices but also in the administration building. In 2011 a new guest house was opened to accommodate the apprentices. Another construction phase, a new workshop building, was completed in summer 2013.

organization

The members of the Chamber of Crafts send their representatives to the General Assembly, the highest decision-making body of the Chamber of Crafts. It consists of 33 people. 22 assembly members represent the employer, 11 the employee side. The general assembly can complement each other by electing a maximum of 3 expert persons. The board of directors is elected from the middle of the general assembly and consists of the president, two vice-presidents (one from the employee side) and six other members (two from the employee side). The Chamber of Crafts is represented externally by the President and the General Manager.

tasks

On the basis of the law on the order of the craft (Handwerksordnung), the Flensburg Chamber of Crafts, as a corporation under public law , performs the state tasks assigned to it. This includes keeping the handicraft role (handicraft directory) and the apprentice role (apprentice directory) as well as conducting examinations in vocational training and further education (journeyman and master craftsman's examinations). The public appointment of experts is also part of the remit of the chambers of crafts. As part of its membership in the German Chamber of Crafts (DHKT) as well as in the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH), the Flensburg Chamber of Crafts participates in legislative initiatives, comments in writing and during hearings on all draft bills relevant to the craft and makes its own suggestions for improving the political framework.

In particular, the Flensburg Chamber of Crafts is involved in economic initiatives in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. It maintains contact with parliaments and authorities, carries out economic observations, creates statistics and economic reports from them, and carries out press and public relations work for the skilled trades. It is also available to its members with a range of advisory services on all company-related issues and also offers seminars, job-specific advanced training courses and training for apprentices as part of inter-company apprenticeship training via its own training center (more under "Services").
