CFS Leitrim
Canadian Forces Station Leitrim , (short: CFS Leitrim), is a military base of the Canadian armed forces in Ottawa . The base is located in the Leitrim district near the airport , around twelve kilometers south of the city center. Encryption and decryption of messages and other communications facilities for government agencies of Canada are performed at the site. These include the Communications Security Establishment Canada , the national news agency and the Canadian Armed Forces . The system is part of the worldwide Echelon network, which also includes the USA , United Kingdom , Canada , Australia and New Zealand .

The current CF Station Leitrim was completed in 1941 south of Ottawa by the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

In 1946 the military strength at the base was 75. Currently several hundred soldiers and civilian workers are stationed there. The station enables and secures communication between the following centers and the allies of the Echelon network:
- Canadian Forces Information Operations Group Headquarters (CFIOGHQ)
- Canadian Forces Network Operation Center (CFNOC)
- Canadian Forces Signals Intelligence Operations Center (CFSOC)
- Joint Information and Intelligence Fusion Center (JIIFC) Detachment
