cFosSpeed is a software solution for traffic shaping for the Windows operating system. It improves the Internet - latency without, data transfer rate while reducing significantly. The program adds itself as a driver in the Windows protocol stack , and performs there one packet inspection and a Layer 7 - protocol analysis from.

functionality

The software divides data packets into different classes. This is done using filters that can be specified by the user. The data stream can therefore be prioritized using the program name, the Layer 7 protocol (e.g. FTP, SSH, HTTP), the TCP or UDP port or using DSCP flags .

Outgoing data packets are not sent directly. Instead, the packets are first placed in a queue and then sent based on their priority. In this way, packages that are urgently needed are sent before less (time) critical packages.

Traffic shaping therefore ensures that interactive connections such as SSH , VNC , Internet telephony , online games react smoothly even with larger data transmissions and that other time-critical packets are also sent quickly. In addition, sending (TCP) ACK signals quickly can accelerate downloads when the upload is overloaded. This is because the server does not send further data until the receipt of previous packets has been confirmed ( TCP flow control ).

CFosSpeed ​​also prevents network overloads during downloads by reducing the TCP window and thus preventing the server from sending too much data.

In addition, cFosSpeed ​​has a packet filter firewall, online time and volume control, a designable network monitor and much more. For example, there is a (computer) language that experts can use to write their own network classes.
