CH2M Hill , also known as CH2M for short , is an American engineering service provider headquartered in the state of Colorado. CH2M offers consulting services as well as design and project planning services . The company is involved in several major infrastructure, industrial and energy projects around the world and is one of the largest government contractors in the United States .
The company was founded in 1946 by college graduates Holly Cornell, Jim Howland and Burke Hayes along with one of their professors, Fred Merryfield, in Corvallis , Oregon . The abbreviation CH2M was derived from the initials of their surnames. It is not known when the name was changed. From the 1960s on, CH2M worked on major projects for wastewater treatment plants. Further major international projects followed in the later decades. Until 2005, the company was significantly involved in the dismantling of the Rocky Flats Plant , which formerly housed facilities for the construction of nuclear weapons. CH2M was acquired by the Jacobs Engineering Group in December 2017 .
