from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CINEMA fairbindet is the development policy special film prize of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) within the framework of the Berlinale .

The international film festival in Berlin (Berlinale) represents an important place for dialogue, creative interaction and international networking thanks to its reach and international reputation, and is also the world's largest public festival. Development policy issues have been addressed in films at the Berlinale for years. Both the program design of the film festival and the framework programs with various projects and events give them a space in which they can be thematized and discussed in a section-related manner. The development film prize CINEMA fairbindet, sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), is the first cross-section film prize of the Berlinale.

Award

In addition to prize money, the award includes the implementation of a Germany-wide roadshow for the winning film. In the second half of the year, the CINEMA fairbindet roadshow offers cinema screenings with an informative supporting program in up to 25 cities.

target

The aim of the award is to reach the general public with topics of interest in development policy in the priorities of German development policy such as education, health, rural development, good governance, climate protection, etc. and thus to anchor development policy as a task for society as a whole. The nominated films take up thematically related elements artistically and in terms of content. It is precisely those films that are to be awarded that connect people across national and language borders and that show new ideas and perspectives, also for the German audience. The audience should be addressed and recognize connections between their lives and the living conditions depicted in the film. The films are intended to portray the reality of life in the countries in a cliché-free manner and thereby also make a contribution to educational work in Germany. Furthermore, the film prize promotes a dialogue between the cinema audience, the directors and experts in the field of development cooperation during the Berlinale.
