CKON 97.3 MHz is a North American radio station. Studios, offices, transmitters and antenna masts are all on the territory of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation . The name of the station goes back to the Mohawk language ("she: kon") and means something like "hello".

The radio station is operated by the Akwesasne Communication Society and is licensed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs (tribal government of the reservation). The transmitter should have a transmission power of 3  kW ERP , whereby the transmitter should be on Canadian territory, but the transmission mast with antenna on US territory. The station is not licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, nor by the American Federal Communication Commission. According to international law, it is a pirate station because the radio station does not have a national government approval. The local legal status has not been clarified, as the station is located on an Indian reservation, and Indian tribes on both sides of the border are “independent nations” who should very well have the right to license their own radio stations. The station has been in operation since 1984 and is tolerated by the governments of both countries.
