CNBC Asia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CNBC Asia is an Asian business and financial news broadcaster operated by NBC Universal and based in Singapore . CNBC Asia is the Asian branch of the US broadcaster CNBC (Consumer News and Business Channel).

history

CNBC Asia went on the air in 1995. The parent company of the Hong Kong- based channel was the radio and television network NBC . The station produced formats based on the American model, for example The Money Wheel and Business Tonight .

In February 1998, the station merged with Dow Jones ' Asian news channel , Asia Business News (ABN). The merger involved massive job cuts at the Hong Kong location, as the station moved to Singapore. The program has been completely changed. Most of the broadcasts were taken over by ABN. From then on, the graphics were also from ABN and thus clearly differed from CNBC Europe and US CNBC. It wasn't until the summer of 1998 that the station introduced new programs, including Lunch Money and Market Watch . In the first months after the merger, the name CNBC Asia Business News was used, later the shorter name CNBC Asia prevailed. However, the subheading A Service of NBC and Dow Jones (a service by NBC and Dow Jones) was retained. From the turn of the millennium, CNBC Asia also used the graphics of the American sister station.

In July 2005, NBC Universal announced that it would buy back the stake in Dow Jones. Since December of that year, CNBC Asia has been fully part of the conglomerate again. Dow Jones will continue to deliver program content. In the course of the restructuring, the line “A Service of NBC and Dow Jones” was also dropped.

program

CNBC Asia produces around nine hours of live programming on weekdays. Between 2.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. (China Standard Time), the station shows the Squawk Box Europe program . In addition, the channel takes from 20 clock all formats of US CNBC, including Squawk Box and Closing Bell . At the weekend, programs from the entire broadcasting group are used. The program "Asia Squawk Box" can be seen on CNBC Europe on Monday night.
