CUTE (satellite)

CUTE ( Cubical Tokyo Tech Engineering satellite ) is the name of three Japanese small satellites that were built as a student project at the Tokyo University of Technology and as an amateur radio satellite .

They follow the Cubesat standard for small satellites and have the shape of a cube with an edge length of 10 centimeters.

CUTE-1

The CUTE-1 satellite was launched on June 30, 2003 and is also known as OSCAR 55.

CUTE-1.7

Many commercially available components such as a Hitachi NPD-20JWL PDA as a control computer and a USB hub for sensor data acquisition were used as equipment.

They also carry an experiment for the observation of charged particles in Earth orbit, which is based on an avalanche photodiode . Hence the suffix APD in the type designation.

CUTE-1.7 + APD

CUTE-1.7 + APD (OSCAR 56) was launched on February 21, 2006 with a Japanese MV . A few days later there were problems with satellite communication.

CUTE-1.7 + APD II

CUTE-1.7 + APD II (OSCAR 65) was launched on April 28, 2008 with an Indian rocket of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle type .
