Royal stables

The Caballerizas Reales of Córdoba (German: Royal Stables) are historic horse stables in Andalusia. The building is located in the historic center of Cordoba, near the Guadalquivir River . The best Andalusian mares and stallions were housed in the stables.

On November 28, 1567, Philip II ordered the establishment of breed standards for the Andalusian horse and the establishment of royal stables in Cordoba. The king commissioned Diego López de Haro y Sotomayor to build the stables near the Alcázar palace complex . The fire signs contained an "R" for Real ( "Real") in a C for Cordoba with a crown above the C . The building is built in a style that is based on the Alcázar. The main building has a cross vault that rests on sandstone pillars.
