Cable Francés
Cable Francés is a jetty (Spanish: cargadero de mineral) in the port city of Almería in the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain .
history
The pier with a length of 380 meters was built on concrete piles in 1920 at Playa San Miguel in order to be able to load ships with greater drafts with iron ore and steel products. It was the second ship loading station after the 650-meter-long Cable Inglés jetty in the port area of Almería, which was built partly from wood and steel in 1904 . Before that, the freighters were loaded and unloaded with the help of shuttle boats. The piers were connected to the Ferrocarril Linares-Almería railway line. In the 1970s, cargo loading operations were discontinued.
On December 17, 1984, the Landungsbrücken were declared a historical building by law of the Consejería de Cultura ( La Declaración de Monumento Histórico Artístico ).
incident
On July 31, 2007, a ferry with 188 people on board collided with the Cable Francés pier when entering the port of Almería.
