geography
Cabo Raso is one of the westernmost points of the Iberian Peninsula and is located 7 km west of Estoril - however, the westernmost point of mainland Europe is Cabo da Roca, which is not far to the north (far left in the photo above). Cabo Raso can be reached directly via the N247, which leads to the cape under two different names, from the north (from Cabo da Roca) via the Estrada do Guincho and from the east (from Cascais / Estoril) via the Avenida Nossa Senhora do Cabo. The location is part of the inland Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais .
lighthouse
The lighthouse of Cabo Raso on the Atlantic coast (in front of the Bay of Lisbon) is located in the Forte de São Brás de Sanxete and was completed inside the fortress in 1894. The tower has an overall height of 13 m. The tower height is 23 m above sea level, the fire carrier is 22 m above sea level.
Fortress
Forte de São Brás de Sanxete At the cape is the fortress of São Brás de Sanxete with the lighthouse of Cabo Raso. The Forte de São Brás de Sanxete was built in 1894. On the left hand side of the entrance gate, a corresponding sign indicates the age of the defense system: "Ministerio da Defesa Nacional ol - Marinha Autoridade Maritima Nacional - Direccao de Farois - Farol do Cabo Raso - 1894".
Bunker systems
In the immediate vicinity of the fortress on the eastern side of the Forte de São Brás de Sanxete with the Farol do Cabo Raso, there are a number of partly badly damaged bunkers from the first half of the 20th century. Some of the bunkers extend directly to the waterline.
