Mariano de Aycinena y Piñol
Mariano de Aycinena y Piñol (born September 16, 1789 in Guatemala City , † January 22, 1855 in Guatemala City) was a head of state of Guatemala .
Life
Mariano de Aycinena came from the very wealthy and influential Guatemalan family Aycinena . He studied law at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala and graduated in 1810 . From 1820 - 26 he was repeatedly as general counsel to the City Council of Guatemala City.
He stood up for the independence of Central America from Spain and was one of the 13 signatories of the Declaration of Independence on September 15, 1821 . He was an outstanding representative of the conservative party and a vehement supporter of Gabino Gaínza 's annexation of Central America to the Mexican Empire . From 1827 - 29 he was president of the province of Guatemala (as part of the 1823 founded the United Provinces of Central America ). His government was authoritarian and repressive. In particular, he fought the free press.
In 1829 troops of the liberal head of state of the province of Honduras , General Francisco Morazán , occupied Guatemala. Aycinena then had to leave the country and went into exile. He was only able to return to Guatemala 15 years later under the conservative government of Rafael Carrera . He was then a member of the Guatemalan parliament, government advisor and, in 1850, as mayor of Guatemala City again politically active.
