Cache on a stick , COAST for short, is a small module with memory chips. This was a pipelined burst cache with a storage capacity of 256 KB or 512 KB. This runs with the external clock frequency of the CPU ( FSB ).

The module is used for memory expansion of soldered L2 cache, usually from 256 KB to 512 KB, or as a replacement of the slower asynchronous L2 cache on older Pentium - motherboards . On many older motherboards, however, the cache is soldered on, making replacement practically impossible.
