Caher Conor

Caher Conor ( Irish Cathair na gConchuireach - also known as "Fahan Beehive Huts" - German  beehive huts from Fahan ) is a dun . It is located in the townland of Fahan ( Irish Fán ) on the south side of Mount Eagle ( Irish Sliabh an Iolair ), west of Dingle near Ventry on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry in Ireland .

Today the complex consists of five closely adjacent beehive huts ( Irish clochans ) surrounded by outer walls in the no longer recognizable real Caher Conor. The hill once had over 400 of these cantilever structures made of dry stone , which prompted an antiquarian in the 19th century to refer to the area as the "City of Fahan". Fahan's huts along Slea Head Drive are believed to date from the 12th century. The incoming Normans forced the Irish out of the fertile land to the periphery of the Dingle Peninsula.

Nearby is Dunbeg Fort ( Irish An Dún Beag - "the little Dun").
