Caherdaniel Fort

Caherdaniel Fort ( Irish Cathair Dónall ) is a ring fort in the south of the Iveragh peninsula west of Caherdaniel, southeast of Waterville in County Kerry in Ireland .

It belongs beside Cahergall and Leacanabuaile (in Cahersiveen ) Cathair to Lothair and neighboring Staigue Fort , all in County Kerry, Caherconnell in County Clare , the forts on the Aran Islands in County Galway and the Grianan of Aileach in County Donegal to the well-preserved or best restored large ring forts.

On the slopes of Mount Tullig on a rocky outcrop west of the Kenmare-Waterville Road N70, the fort is in good condition. The inside diameter is about 20.0 m. Its dry masonry is particularly noteworthy . The wall to the west and north is almost intact, and the height of the wall and outcrop is likely to be greater than 6.0 m. The internal height of the wall is likely to be no more than a meter. The cashel has been destroyed in the south and east, where the entrance was probably. Not far away is a smaller, destroyed fort (Cashel).
