As Caldwell's three contiguous locations in Essex County New Jersey called. What they all have in common is that they bear the name of James Caldwells, an American revolutionary. Although the places are independent today, they are often summarized in the language. They form a preferred residential area on the edge of the New York Metropolitan Area with above-average household incomes.

The Caldwells include the boroughs of Caldwell and North Caldwell , as well as the township of West Caldwell . Together with today's Fairfield Township , they formed the Caldwell Township until 1892 .

Grover Cleveland , the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, was born in Caldwell Township.
