Attila Csampai

Attila Csampai (* 1949 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a German musicologist and critic, journalist, author and editor.

Life

Attila Csampai was born in Budapest in 1949, grew up in Munich and studied at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich , among others, the subjects of musicology , philosophy, sociology and mathematics.

Since 1974 Csampai has published as a music expert, initially as an author for programs and record editions, later as a reviewer for specialist magazines. He has been working for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation since 1979, and continues to teach as a visiting professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg . Since 1990 he has been the scientific director of the Toblach Gustav Mahler Music Weeks and chairman of the jury for the record award “Toblacher composing house”. Csampai currently writes for audiophiles, crescendo, hifi & records, HifiStatement.net and stereoplay.

As an author and co-editor, he and Dietmar Holland oversaw the rororo opera books , the concert guide ( 1987/2005) and the opera guide (1990/2006) in the 1980s . His illustrated book on Maria Callas (1993) has so far appeared in 15 editions and has been translated into five languages. In 2001 his opera essay collection Sarastro's Silent Love was published.
