The movement is supported by Shervin Pishevar, founder of Virgin Hyperloop One . Allegedly, every third citizen of California is said to be in favor of leaving. In addition, as a result of Donald Trump's policy, a citizens' movement called “Yes California Independence” has formed, which is said to already have 30,000 members.

California has about 39 million inhabitants, 12.06% of the population of the United States; In terms of economic power, an independent California would be the fifth largest economy in the world. It is argued that an independent California could operate an environmentally and migrant-friendly policy. It also emphasizes that California is sending a large amount of tax money to Washington, DC that would keep economically weaker states afloat, and that California is missing. The chances for a Calexit are rated as unrealistic, however.
