The California State Route 142 , just CA-142 is a state highway in the US state of California , the cities Brea and Chino Hills together. Most of the route is also known as the Carbon Canyon Road, the easternmost section as the Chino Hills Parkway.

From the border between Orange County and San Bernardino Counties to Peyton Drive in Chino Hills, the road is designated a scenic route . In addition, California State Route 142 is a popular shortcut between the Inland Empire region and the economic centers in Brea and the surrounding Orange County. The course of the road has many tight curves, which is why it is not well suited for long vehicles such as articulated trucks .

California State Route 142 begins in Brea on California State Route 90 as Valencia Avenue. After a short stretch in a north-easterly direction, it continues east at a junction, now under the name Carbon Canyon Road. Afterwards, the Carbon Canyon Regional Park and the Olinda settlement are passed. After the border between Orange and San Bernardino Counties , the State Route first crosses the Sleepy Hollow district of the city of Chino Hills , before continuing north-west into the city center. At an intersection, the State Route changes its street name again and, now again in an easterly direction, passes further parts of the city as the Chino Hills Parkway. Eventually, the road ends on California State Route 71 near the Chino border .
