It is composed of up to 4 m high, slightly overhanging wood panels, the horizontal wood afford screwed. Usually several rows of strips of different sizes are attached next to each other

The campus board was developed in 1988 as an effective training device for climbers - according to Norbert Sandner he worked together with Jerry Moffatt , according to another representation, Wolfgang Güllich and Kurt Albert were involved in the development alongside Moffatt and Sandner. Wolfgang Güllich used it to be able to train systematically for the Route Action Directe , which made it world famous in the climbing scene.

designation

The training device was named after the Campus fitness studio in Nuremberg , where the first campus board has been set up to this day. The training device is called pan Güllich in French and Italian .

In English climbing parlance, to campus means climbing without using your legs, but not necessarily on a campus board. During campusing, the climber pulls himself along the route (or a section) while hanging on his arms.
