Canal d'Oraison

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Canal d'Oraison is an artificial watercourse in the Durance Valley in France that carries the water of several natural rivers to a number of Electricité de France hydroelectric power stations near Oraison .

The significant gradient of the rivers in the Durance valley is used in a long line of power stations to generate electricity. Important headquarters are located at Sisteron , Oraison and Cadarache . The main plants are the Sainte-Tulle power plant and the Le Largue power plant .

The Canal d'Oraison, built from 1959 to 1962, forms the central part of this hydroelectric system. It begins at the Barrage de l'Escale ( 44 ° 5 ′ 8 ″  N , 6 ° 0 ′ 51 ″  E ) and is led with several large canal bridges over the rivers Bléone and Durance.
