Canberra Natural Park
As Canberra Nature Park (Engl. Canberra Nature Park ) is a composite of 30 different nature reserves in the Australian capital Canberra respectively. The vegetation ranges from forests to shrubs to lowland grass meadows. Before the establishment of the nature park, many of these areas were used as pastures, but are now being left to nature again.
The hills in the urban area of Canberra are protected from overbuilding by the National Capital Plan drawn up by the National Capital Authority . They form a scenic background and give the city a very natural character, which also corresponds to the specifications of the development plan designed by Walter Burley Griffin . Protected hills include Black Mountain , Mount Ainslie , Mount Majura , Mount Pleasant, Russell Hill, Red Hill, Mount Mugga, O'Connor Ridge, Bruce Ridge, Mount Painter, The Pinnacle, Lyneham Ridge, Oakey Hill, Mount Taylor , Isaacs Ridge, Mount Stromlo , Mount Arawang, Neighbor Hill, Wanniassa Hill and Narrabundah Hill.
Many of the city's residents live within walking distance of one of the publicly accessible nature reserves. These are usually surrounded by a simple wire fence or house fences and have entrance gates; motorized traffic is prohibited. In some of the hilly areas there are reservoirs that provide drinking water .
