Cancer Research Institute
The Cancer Research Institute (CRI) is an American non-profit organization that funds cancer research in New York City . The CRI was founded in 1953 by Helen Coley Nauts and Oliver R. Grace with a $ 2000 grant from Nelson Rockefeller (today's value about US $ 19,083).
Nauts' father, surgeon William Coley (1862-1936), was a pioneer in cancer immunotherapy . In its tradition, the CRI also focuses on immunological rather than traditional treatment methods such as chemotherapy or surgical interventions.
For the 2015 reporting period, the CRI had revenues of $ 41.3 million on spending of $ 39 million, of which $ 29 million was spent on research.
The CRI awards several internationally recognized awards; including the William B. Coley Award , the Lloyd J. Old Award, and the Frederick W. Alt Award .
