background

The company, at that time run as Officine Meccaniche Eden Fumagalli in Monza by the Fumagalli family, presented its first washing machine in 1945 after Enzo Fumagalli, the son of the company founder, saw electric washing machines in the USA while a prisoner of war. The success of this first model led to rapid growth in the 1950s and 1960s, from 1946 under the name Candy. From the 1970s onwards, various acquisitions were made in Italy and abroad, which led to the internationalization and expansion of the product portfolio (including 1979: Kelvinator (England); 1985: Zerowatt and Gasfire; 1995: Hoover ).

In 2018, the family sold the company to Chinese competitor Haier for EUR 475 million.
