Cape Bruny Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Bruny Island off the Tasmanian coast . It is the third oldest lighthouse in Australia .

history

In 1835 there were three shipwrecks in the D'Entrecasteaux Canal , including the convict transporter George III. with 134 dead. As a result, construction of the lighthouse began in 1836. It was then in continuous operation from 1838 to 1996.

In December 2000 the lighthouse and the surrounding area were incorporated into the South Bruny National Park .
