Capilla de la Caridad (Montevideo)
The Capilla de la Caridad is a Catholic church building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo in Ciudad Vieja on Calle Maciel between 25 de Mayo and Washington .
The foundation stone was laid in 1798, the building by the architect Miguel Estévez was completed in 1807. The architect Bernardo Poncini completed the facade from 1859 to 1860 . The area on which the building stands covers an area of 6626 m². The twelve meter high, two-story chapel is part of the Maciel Hospital , which is housed in the building of the Hospital de San José y la Caridad that surrounds the chapel .
The Capilla de la Caridad has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
