The Capilla de sa Tanca Vella is a chapel belonging to the municipality of Sant Francesc de Formentera and the oldest church on the island of Formentera . It is mentioned several times as early as the thirteenth century. It is located on the Tanca Vella site, a farm.

The small church with a rectangular floor plan is covered by a barrel vault . The external appearance is simple and does not differ from the traditional architecture of Formentera.

On July 17, 1369, at the request of the Parish of Ibiza , the Archbishop of Tarragona Pere Clasquerí approved the construction of a chapel in Formentera, dedicated to San Valero and to be built near the cave of the same name. The old medieval chapel became the rectory in 1718, and a cemetery was laid out next to it. The chapel was closed in 1737, but the cemetery continued to be used until the new cemetery was created behind the new church. On May 19, 1757, the graves of the cemetery of the Chapel of Sa Tanca Vella were transferred to the cemetery of the New Church of San Francisco.

The Formentera Council purchased the land and house in Tanca Vella and restored the chapel. The farmhouse was demolished because of its ruinous condition.

The chapel was listed as a historical monument in 1993 (Bienes de Interés Cultural RI-51-0008217).
