Carbogen

Carbogen is the trade name for a gas mixture made up of 5 parts by volume of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and 95 parts by volume of oxygen (O 2 ).

It is used in medicine for ventilation on humans or to trigger hyperventilation , u. a. as part of the therapy of carbon monoxide poisoning , poisoning with halogenated hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane and in cell culture for the supply of tissue preparations and cultures of microorganisms with oxygen .

In magnetic resonance imaging it can be used to generate a BOLD contrast .
