The careal holding AG is a Swiss family holding company, whose portfolio the investments held by the family Haefner are organized. The company was founded in 1941 as Autark AG by Walter Haefner and is based in Zurich. The owner family is considered to be extremely secretive and does not publish any business figures through their holding company. According to the Handelszeitung, the company employed 7,278 people in 2006 and generated sales of CHF 4.723 billion.

The most important subsidiary of Careal Holding is AMAG Automobil- und Motoren AG in Zurich, also founded in 1945 by Walter Haefner and active in the automotive trade . The AMAG Group's automotive business also includes AMAG Leasing AG ( leasing business ), Roc AG ( second-hand trade ) and AMAG Services AG ( car rental and parking garages ).

Careal Holding also holds a 26.98 percent stake in the US software group CA, Inc. , making the Haefner family its largest shareholder.

In the summer of 2006, company founder Walter Haefner handed over the management of the family holding to his son Martin Haefner at the age of 95.
