The Caribbean Motel is an architecturally significant Googie- style building in Wildwood Crest , Cape May County , New Jersey .
Building description
The U-shaped motel is two-story and has a flat roof. It has 30 guest rooms, an office and a lounge with a sundeck on the first floor. The modernist architecture of the Caribbean Motel and the other 275 or so hotel buildings that were built in Wildwood from 1956 were based on the resorts of Miami Beach .
history
The Caribbean Motel was probably built in 1957-58. In 1956, the Wildwood Crest motel construction boom began with the opening of the Garden State Parkway . The motel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 2005 .
