Karl Friedrich Klein (1898)

Carl Friedrich Klein (born December 1, 1803 in Schweindorf , Württemberg ; † April 22, 1884 in Barmen ) was a German textile manufacturer.

Life

He was the son of a pastor from Nördlingen . He completed a commercial apprenticeship in Augsburg, worked for a while in Munich and came to Barmen in 1828. In July 1828 he married Christine Schlatter, daughter of Anna Schlatter St. Gallen. They had seven children, five of whom were sons. Klein was initially a partner in the Friedrich Röhrig company, which he later took over and renamed C. F. Klein-Schlatter. Klein's company produced fabrics and scarves. In 1868 he founded a weaving mill for Zanella - a lining material for men's clothing and uniforms - which operated up to 600 looms.

In 1836 the Kleins set up a toddler school on the Bruch, and another children's school was added later. In addition, Klein founded the first youth club in Prussia, Barmen-Gemarke, (today YMCA-Adlerbrücke) and an orphanage in 1836 and was a member of various Christian organizations.
