Carl Plötz

Carl Plötz (* 1814 ; † August 12, 1886 in Greifswald ) was a German entomologist ( lepidopterology ).

Plötz worked on the butterfly fauna of the Greifswald area, where he lived, and of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He was a specialist in thick-headed butterflies (Hesperiidae). He also worked on Reinhold Wilhelm Buchholz's African butterfly collection .

His drawings of butterflies (over 10,700 plates) went to the Zoological State Collection in Munich. 60 boxes from his collection are in the Zoological Institute in Greifswald.

He was a member of the Szczecin Entomological Association since 1856. In 1877/78 he was a collection assistant at the Zoological Institute in Greifswald.
