Carl Viktor von Fischer

Carl Viktor von Fischer (* 1766 in Bern ; † 1821 ) was a Swiss officer.

Career

Carl Viktor von Fischer was the son of Emanuel Friedrich von Fischer (1732–1811) ud Katharina von Wattenwyl . From 1782 he was an officer in the Dutch service and in 1792 a captain in the Bern general staff. In 1795 he was raised to the rank of councilor. In 1798 Fischer fought at Fraubrunnen and joined Ferdinand Isaak de Rovéréa. In 1799 he was wounded near Zurich. From 1801 he was a major in the English service, fought in Naples, Sicily and Egypt ; then he was lieutenant colonel in Gibraltar and commander of Cadiz , then commanded a regiment in Canada, took part in the British-American War (1812-1814) in the conquest of Fort Oswego and was wounded at Erie. From 1816 he was a colonel and regiment owner.
