Live and act

Wunderlich was born in Meerane in 1839 . His father was the manufacturer Siegismund Wilhelm Wunderlich, who founded a manufactured goods store in 1844. As a businessman, Carl Wilhelm Wunderlich had been co-owner of his father's business since 1877. He was a city councilor from 1885 to 1887 and a city councilor from 1887 to 1890 for his native Meerane . Wunderlich was able to retire relatively early. He and his family moved to Coburg , where he created a villa with a large, park-like garden . Shortly after completion of the house, Wunderlich died on August 22, 1893 in Coburg. His urn was later buried in the Meeraner family crypt.

In his will , Wunderlich named the city of Meerane as his universal heir. The city thus also received Wunderlich's precious coin collection as an unsaleable property . Carl Wilhelm Wunderlich decreed in his will that the city of Meerane should use two thirds of his assets to cultivate and reforest land. The rest should be invested and the interest used to maintain the forest. For example, the Schiller Park created by the Beautification Association , the Annapark bordering the Seiferitz facilities and the Mittelberg facilities were expanded. The greatest creation, however, is the Wunderlich Park. The city later bought land so that the Merzenberg plants were connected with the church wood. With the help of the Wunderlich Foundation , a green belt with parks was created around the city of Meerane , which served the recreation of the city's citizens.

The Wunderlich residential and commercial building at August-Bebel-Strasse 49 was demolished in 2005. Behind a drugstore located there today, part of the Wunderlich garden has been preserved.
